Are you in-network with my insurance?

Perhaps the most frequently asked question pertaining to health care these days is, “Are you in-network with my insurance?” While it may seem like common sense and the wisest option to go to a provider who is on your insurance’s plan, we’ve realized lately that many patients do not fully understand what that means.

In the following article, we will discuss why Palmetto Dental Associates has made the decision not to be an in-network provider and how this makes our office different.

What does it mean to be in-network?

When a dental office is in-network with an insurance company, it means that the dentist has signed a contract with that specific insurance plan to treat patients who carry that type of insurance, but here’s the stipulation - the dentist has to provide the treatment at the insurance company’s dictated fees, many of which are so low that overhead and lab fees are barely able to be covered.

So, how do these in-network dentists make up for the lost revenue? By seeing more patients in the same amount of time and by doing the work at a faster pace. At in-network offices, many times the quality suffers as a result. This often brings to mind the old adage, “you get what you pay for.”

Will we still file your insurance?

Absolutely! Even though we are not an in-network provider, we file all insurances and are happy to do so as a courtesy to our wonderful patients. In most cases, your insurance will still cover many to all of the procedures received at our office, up to your plan’s allowed amount.

Additionally, we will gladly file pre-determinations with your insurance company so that you will have a better idea of what your out-of pocket portion will be.
