What Is A Full Mouth Makeover?

A full mouth makeover is exactly what it sounds like. This process combines both cosmetic dentistry and reconstructive dentistry to completely restore the natural beauty of your smile and the normal function of your bite.

Depending on your oral health and the issues you have with your smile, this could include teeth whitening to reverse stains, veneers to cover up chipped or uneven teeth, dental crowns to cover up damaged teeth, or even dental bridges and implants to replace one or more missing teeth.

Together, you and Dr. Thomas or Dr. Shull will explore your options for restoring your smile, and the team at Palmetto Dental Associates will design a customized plan that’s perfect for your smile and your budget.

How Does The Process Work?

To begin the process, you will need to come into our office to see Dr. Thomas or Dr. Shull for a comprehensive oral exam. During this exam, Dr. Shull or Dr. Thomas will examine your mouth and determine which restorations may be required for your treatment.

Then, they will discuss your issues with your smile, your budget, your timeframe for restoring your teeth, and other such things to help you pick the right treatments for your mouth. Once you’ve confirmed your treatment plan, you’ll begin scheduling your follow-up appointments.

The exact treatment process varies depending on your case. But, in general, orthodontic treatments like Invisalign and restorative treatments like dental crowns and dental implants are done first. Once your teeth are healthy and are properly aligned, further cosmetic treatments like whitening, bonding, and veneers will be done to improve the appearance of your smile.

How Long Will My Full Mouth Makeover Last?

Your full mouth makeover will never “wear out” or stop improving your smile. The treatment is permanent, and with regular dental visits and maintenance at Palmetto Dental Associates, your smile will look beautiful for the rest of your life.

However, each individual treatment used for your full mouth restoration may have a different lifespan, and require replacement every once in a while.

For example, while dental implants will last you for the rest of your life, the dental crowns used to replace your missing teeth may wear out and require replacement every 15-20 years. Or, if you get veneers as part of your treatment, one or more of them may wear out after 10-15 years.

This is to be expected. Your teeth and the restorations used to improve your smile go through a lot of wear and tear over the years. But as long as you see Dr. Thomas and Dr. Shull for a consultation every six months, they’ll be able to keep an eye on your oral health, repair and replace your dental work, and ensure your smile continues to look great for the years and decades to come.
