What Are ClearCorrect Aligners?

ClearCorrect is an alternative to traditional braces. Rather than using metal brackets, wires, and elastics to move your teeth, ClearCorrect uses a series of clear plastic aligners. These look similar to a retainer, or a night guard for teeth grinding.

Each set of aligners is designed to gently move your teeth into the proper position. They place pressure on your teeth, correcting gaps in your smile, crooked teeth, and even jaw problems. ClearCorrect can be used to treat many of the same things as braces.

And the best thing about ClearCorrect is that it’s invisible. ClearCorrect won’t affect your appearance or speech. It’s also more comfortable than braces, and you can remove ClearCorrect to brush, floss, eat, and drink. This means there are no inconvenient dietary restrictions, and it’s easier to care for your smile.

What To Expect During The ClearCorrect Process

First, you’ll come to Palmetto Dental Associates for a consultation with Dr. Thomas or Dr. Shull. They will perform a comprehensive oral exam and orthodontic checkup to determine if you’re a good candidate for ClearCorrect. Most patients with minor-to-moderate orthodontic issues will qualify.

If you’re approved, they will take impressions and pictures of your teeth, and work with ClearCorrect to develop your treatment plan. You’ll come back in a few weeks to pick up your first several sets of ClearCorrect aligners and to get instructions on how to wear them.

Each set of aligners is worn for about 20-22 hours per day, usually for two weeks. Then, you’ll switch to a new set of aligners. And every 6-8 weeks, you’ll come into Palmetto Dental Associates. You’ll get a quick checkup, and Dr. Thomas or Dr. Shull will provide you with your next few sets of aligners. This same basic process will continue until your treatment is complete.

How Long Does ClearCorrect Take?

Most patients require 20-24 sets of aligners for treatment, and each set is typically worn for two weeks. This means that most people can be treated with ClearCorrect in just under a year. However, this varies depending on the patient. Some patients may have a shorter treatment time, and others may need a longer treatment period to ensure their teeth move properly.

The best way to find out how long your treatment may take is to come to our office for a consultation with Dr. Thomas or Dr. Shull. It’s also important to note that inadequate aligner wear can lead to delays in treatment, so you should make sure you’re wearing your ClearCorrect aligners as much as possible during treatment.

Am I A Good Candidate For ClearCorrect?

As long as your mouth is healthy and you don’t have serious orthodontic issues, the answer is likely “yes.” However, if you do have problems like cavities, infected teeth, gum disease, or any other such issues, these will need to be resolved before ClearCorrect treatment can begin.

In addition, you may not be a good candidate if you have severe orthodontic problems. Traditional orthodontics like braces are more versatile and powerful than ClearCorrect, and are usually recommended for major bite issues and extremely crooked teeth.

The only way to confirm whether or not you’re a good candidate for treatment in Lexington is to get an orthodontic consultation with a ClearCorrect dentist. So don’t wait. Come to Palmetto Dental Associates for a consultation with Dr. Shull or Dr. Thomas, and take your first steps toward a straighter smile today.
