His two upper lateral incisors received composite veneers, an implant was placed where the tooth was missing, and then the front two teeth received full-coverage crowns. The roof of the mouth is able to be left un-covered which helps maintain a better sense of taste and makes eating more enjoyable. The lower hybrid denture stays in place firmly and isn’t moved by the tongue. These prostheses provide the closest thing to having your natural teeth back! The implants fully support the hybrid dentures and allow them to sit up off of the gum tissue ever so slightly so that they can easily be cleaned underneath and maintained at home with special floss and a water pick. Metal fillings also put a lot of stress on the surrounding tooth structure and you will often find undermining crack lines in the natural tooth structure around a silver filling. After removing the older broken metal fillings, the teeth are cleaned well and new tooth-colored composite resin fillings are placed to seal and restore the teeth! If the cracks around an older silver filling are significant, the best option for the tooth may be a full-coverage crown to protect the tooth from further breakage.
